Join host Andrew Marr as he discovers how each and every one of us is interconnecting making Britain what it is today. Mae'r visualisations yma'n anhygoel, yn dangos llwybrau traffig mewn dinasoedd ac ar y môr. BBC Director-General Mark Thompson has made several BBC Wales journalists very cross by suggesting that the BBC Wales newsroom holds back good stories from the network. But maybe he has a point.Yesterday BBC Radio Wales reported in the morning that the Israeli ambassador had said that the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly had 'disgraced himself' by his email last week. No mention of this on Wales Today. Nor on BBC Online. If they don't report significant stories properly themselves, perhaps it's no wonder BBC network news doesn't get told? You are subscribed to an RSS Feed from Leighton Andrews. Er i Taro'r Post ar Radio Cymru amser cinio roi tegwch i ddwy ochr y ddadl am ddatblygu academi i beilotiaid "gwerth canoedd o filiynau o bynoedd" yn Y Fali, Môn mae'r stori fel ag y mae ar wefan y BBC ac hefyd ar y penawdau newyddion yn dangos bias llwyr tuag at Filwriaeth Prydain.Ar un golwg, ac un golwg yn unig y mae'r buddsoddiad yma yn newyddion da. Gwnaiff fe wnaiff ddod a swyddi ond nunelle yn yr adroddiad ar wefan y BBC y mae'r gohebydd yn gwneud ymdrech i esbonio mae dod a swyddi ynghlym a pheiriant rhyfel Prydain y mae'r datblygiad yma. Ydy'r BBC yn awgrymu bod pob swydd yn swydd dda de facto? Fel y dywedodd Guto Prys ap Gwynfor yn graff unwaith: mae Puteindra a'r diwydiant rhyw yn dod a gwaith i ardaloedd ond dydy hynny ddim yn golygu fod y gwaith a'r diwydiant yn iachusol ac...
The long-running Freedom of Information battle over the Balen Report, an internal review of the BBC's reporting of the Middle East, is to go to the House of Lords. The Judicial Committee of the House of Lords decided last week to allow solicitor Stephen Sugar to appeal against a Court of Appeal ruling that the BBC did not have to disclose the Balen report on its Middle East reporting under the Freedom of Information Act.The decision, noted in the Judicial Business section of the Minutes for 22 May, gave leave for Sugar's appeal and said that the petition of appeal should be lodged by June 5.Sugar, a commercial solicitor from Putney, south-west London, has been campaigning for the BBC to release the Balen report - written by senior editorial adviser Malcolm Balen - to be published as part...

Ers rhai wythnosau nawr dwi wedi bod yn defnyddio Zattoo sef gwasanaeth teledu byw ar y we. Maen wasanaeth rhad ac am ddim ac maen gwbl gyfreithiol. Yr unig anfantais yw fod ansawdd y darllediad ddim yn dod yn agos i ansawdd digidol neu deledu lloeren eto ond maen debyg nad oes gan y rhan fwyaf o bobl gysylltiad bandllydan ddigon sydyn i ddelio gyda ansawdd uwch ar hyn o bryd beth bynnag. Mae'r gwasanaeth hwn yn un arloesol oherwydd fod gyda mi bellach yn fy fflat fynediad i sianeli digidol fel BBC Three a News 24 er fod fy nheledu confensiynol wedi methu pigo fynny signal analog da heb son am ddigidol (er mod i'n byw hanner canllath, yn llythrennol, o un o brif ganolfannau darlledu BBC Cymru!).Ymysg y sianeli sydd ar Zattoo ar hyn o bryd mae BBC1,BBC2, BBC2 Wales (+London, Scotland...
How can the BBC be objective on matters relating to the EU when they are in hock to the EU?THE BBC last night faced accusations of pro-Brussels bias as it was revealed that the corporation had taken out £141m in “soft” loans from the European Union. The broadcaster has taken out three separate low interest loans from the EU-backed European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund the expansion of its growing commercial empire. It also emerged that the BBC has received grants from the EU worth £1.4m over the past five years. The Brussels deals raise awkward questions for the corporation about its coverage of European affairs and its burgeoning profit-making arm whose interests extend to property, publishing and the internet. The details of the loans and grants stretching back six years emerged in a...
Maybe some of the messages we have been giving the BBC hierarchy about the UK network'sfailure to get to grips with Britain post-devolution have hit home.Today on Breakfast News they had Colette Hume from Cardiff explaining the Wales and England teachers' strike, and on two occasions Bill Turnbull was heard to talk about elections for all the Welsh and some of the English councils. In that order. Then they had a report on the Northern Irish economy with Declan.Of course, it could just be a flash in the pan: sustaining it will be the test. You are subscribed to an RSS Feed from Leighton Andrews. Mae Menna, fel pob merch maen siŵr, wedi dotio gyda'r gyfres 'I'd do anything' – y gyfres ar y BBC i ganfod y Nancy nesaf. Mae Tara Bethan, ein Tara ni (!), allan wrth gwrs ond mae diddordeb Menna yn y rhaglen yn parhau. Ond wrth gwrs rhan o ffenomenon gyffredinol y byd darlledu yw'r gyfres ddiweddaraf yma oherwydd yn perthyn i'r un categori y mae'r rhaglenni canlynol: Pop Idol, X Factor, Stricktly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice, Fame Academy ac wrth gwrs cyfresi fel I'd do Anything ac How do you find a girl like Maria. Fe ymddengys mae dyma yw big hitters y diwydiant teledu ar hyn o bryd gyda'r BBC ac ITV yr un fath. Maen rhaid mae apel rhagleni o'r fath yw'r cyfuniad od o berfformio a chystadlu, dyma yw'r peth mawr, y peth diweddaraf ar hyn o bryd ym myd teledu Anglo-Americanaidd.Ond...
Roedd post ysgafn ar flog Vaughan Roderick ddoe am ddisgrifiadau ymgeiswyr i fod yn gynghorwyr cymunedol yn Llangynog, Powys. Sylwais nad oedd modd gadael sylw (h.w. roedd y botwm 'gadael sylw' wedi diflannu. Deallais wedyn o flog arall y BBC bod yr holl flogiau'n cael eu huwchraddio. Dwi ddim yn berson technegol, ond fel blogiwr ac un sy'n gadael sylw ar flogiau mae gyda fi syniad o beth sy'n gweithio'n dda a beth sydd ddim. Doeddwn i ddim yn gweld lot o broblem gyda'r hen sustem, ond ymddengys bod spam yn broblem. I ddod dros y broblem hyn mae rwan yn rhaid i chi fewngofnodi er mwyn gadael sylw. Dyma sydd gan y BBC Internet Blog i ddweud:A new registration based comments system This uses the existing signon system across the BBC, so Message Board or Have Your Say users will be...
Mark Thompson, the Director General of the BBC, tonight warned broadcasters against becoming overly-cautious in their reporting on Islam for fear of causing offence to Muslims. Speaking at Westminster Cathedral Mr Thompson, a practising Catholic, said there was “a growing nervousness about discussion about Islam and its relationship to the traditions and values of British and Western society as a whole”.**So would that be the same BBC that still refuses to release the Balan report into bias against Israel in its reporting, would that be the same BBC that actually went to court to ensure that report was buried, would that be the same state funded BBC that used taxpayers money to fund the court case?Would that be the same BBC that has repeated glossed over the SIOE demos against the...

There was a very disturbing story on the BBC's website recently about a horse being injured and graffiti being sprayed on the owner's building. A horse's nose was cut and anti-English graffiti daubed on a stables owned by a Cardiff woman who had moved to a village in west Wales. Alison Hayes, who was born in the Welsh capital, found her seven-month-old pony with a wound to its nose. As she helped the animal at her land in Tegryn, near Crymych, Pembrokeshire, she also noticed graffiti written in slang Welsh saying "English out". This is quite a disturbing story, but it sounds a bit strange. The graffiti message 'Cai Maes Saes' is'nt actually Welsh or Welsh slang, it's jibberish. There's been quite a lot news stories in Wales about Welsh signs been translated by translation websites,...

Hat Tip to Crusader Rabbit for this one..Thanks to JPost - The BBC has apologized for significant errors in two recent news reports on Israel. In a news item on March 7, following the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva attack, the BBC showed a bulldozer demolishing a house, while correspondent Nick Miles told viewers: "Hours after the attack, Israeli bulldozers destroyed his family home. Later, mourners set up Hamas and Islamic Jihad banners nearby." News anchor Geeta Guru-Murthy said: "Now, we would like to clarify a report we heard at this hour last Friday about the attack by a Palestinian gunman on a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem. In the report, the day after the attack, BBC World said that the gunman's home in east Jerusalem had been demolished by the Israeli authorities. That was not correct, and...

Dros y flwyddyn diwethaf 'dy ni wedi gweld gwleidyddion fel Gordon Brown a David Cameron yn mwynhau iwfforia mis-mêl gwleidyddol un diwrnod, a'r diwrnod nesaf yn plymio i waelodion y polau piniwn wedi i rhyw sgandal dorri ar y newyddion. Ond does 'run gwleidydd dros y flwyddyn diwethaf wedi gweld y ffasiwn newid agwedd o fewn amser mor fyr ag y wynebodd Iesu wythnos y Pasg. Gychwyn yr wythnos gorymdeithiodd yn fuddugoliaethus i fewn i Jerwsalem gyda'r torfeydd yn gweiddi: 'Hosanna! Bendigedig yw'r un sy'n dod yn enw'r Arglwydd, yn Frenin Israel!' (Ioan 12:13) ac erbyn diwedd yr wythnos roeddent yn bloeddio â chynddaredd 'Ymaith ag ef, ymaith ag ef, croeshoelia ef' (Ioan 19:15). Ond dim ond yn arwynebol y gellid mewn gwirionedd cymharu cwymp Iesu o boblogrwydd cyhoeddus â chwymp...

Roedd y papurau Sul yn drwm o newyddion am y Tywysog Harry dros y penwythnos. Lluniau ohono yn bod yn ‘normal’ oedd yn cael y sylw. Dim ond ychydig oedd yn ceisio edrych y tu hwnt i’r dyn ifanc yn gwisgo’r cap gyda’r arwyddair “We do bad things to bad people” arno. Prin oedd y cwestiynau am pam fod y cyfryngau wedi penderfynu nad oedden nhw’n mynd i adrodd y newyddion amdano hyd nes bod yr awdurdodau yn dweud bod hynny’n iawn i’w wneud. Efallai bod hynny’n iawn yn achos busnesau preifat fel y papurau newyddion, ond beth am y BBC. Maen nhw â dyletswyddau stadudol, a oedd peidio â dweud am Harry yn cydfynd gyda’r dyletswyddau rheiny? Am rywbeth nad oedd yn ddigon pwysig i sôn amdano wrth iddo ddigwydd mae wedi cael...
Rhaglen ddiddorol ar BBC4 neithiwr, sef Rob Brydon’s Identity Crisis. Wnaeth Brydon daith fach o gigs yn Ne Cymru, gan ffilmio’r “daith darganfod hunaniaeth” oedd e arni’r un pryd. Mae Brydon yn actor arbennig (yn hytrach na “stand up” arbennig), ac oedd amheuaeth gen i a oedd Brydon wedi darganfod ei Gymreictod, neu dim ond [...]...

Anaml fyddai'n ymweld â'r dudalen yma i ddweud y gwir, ond o beth dwi'n gofio roedd yn ddigon hawdd cyrchu gwefan anferthol y bbc drwyddo. Mae'r edrychiad newydd yn amlwg wedi ei ddylanwadu gan ddyluniad gwe2.0, ac mae modd i'r unigolyn ddewis ac addasu beth sy'n ymddangos ar y dudalen (yn debyg i beth gewch chi ar wasanaeth tebyg i netvibes). Y peth yw dwi'n meddwl bydd y bbc yn disgyn rhwng dwy stol yma gan na fydd hyn at ddant darllenwyr sydd ddim yn gîcs gan ei fod yn ymddangos fel newid er mwyn newid, a tydi o ddim yn mynd i blesio'r gîcs achos mae'r dewisiadau yn reit gyfyng a tydi'r dyluniad ddim yn wych o bell ffordd.Mae'r mwyafrif o sylwadau ar flog BBC Internet Blog wedi bod reit negyddol. Tra dwi'n hoffi'r syniad o bersonoleiddio'r hafan, does dim llawer o angen hyn arna...

You got to love the BBC - Always standing up to do the work of the terrorists here in the UK.British troops executed as many as 20 Iraqi prisoners after a gun battle in May 2004, lawyers claim. Some alleged survivors of the gun battle near the southern Iraqi town of Majar al-Kabir also claim corpses were mutilated by UK military personnel. Solicitor Phil Shiner said: "We would be very surprised if [the evidence] did not shock the nation." All claims of any kind of abuse by British troops have been strongly denied by the Ministry of Defence.**But after this was investigated(twice) no evidence was shown that UK troops carried out execution style killings of civilians. The BBC state - the BBC "...has seen no proof that prisoners died at the hands of their captors ..."Even though the BBC...
A Cymru Rouge press release: The BBC recently started calling Macedonia Macedonia. It had hitherto dubbed it the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, which sounds like the sort of thing Prince changes his name to. So the United Nations liked it: big deal, they like all sorts of junk. The BBC done right. The Cymru Rouge keeps a close eye on BBC activities - the eye in question being that of Iago Anffawd (fab Sieffre Siomedig fab Gwil Goll), which has had a protrudent, stalk-like adaptability ever since he test-dived with the Welsh Socialist Navy's first experimental submarine coracle. He regularly reports back to the Sedd Fawr of the Rouge on metropolitan outrages against Cambritude, such as Glenys Bloody Kinnock appearances and weathergirls standing in front of Aberystwyth on the map and...
The BBC is to provide political analysis for every schoolchild, in a controversial web venture. Mark Thompson, the Director-General, announced the plan during a speech on trust, in which he also defended the “rottweiler” interview techniques of Jeremy Paxman. Mr Thompson promised to “transform the way the BBC connects with British democracy”. This would be achieved by establishing “the world’s most creative multimedia portal which will offer comprehensive political coverage and analysis to every secondary school in the UK” The portal will give children the BBC’s analysis of issues such as the European Union Treaty, asking whether it involves a significant transfer of powers from Britain. But the new venture, which remains uncosted, comes as BBC staff threaten industrial...

Ydych chi wedi cychwyn defnyddio BBC iPlayer? Sustem ar-lein am ddim ydyw gan y BBC sy'n eich galluogi i ail-wylio (neu am y tro cyntaf os colloch y gwreiddiol!) y rhan helaeth o raglenni'r BBC gafodd eu darlledu dros y saith diwrnod diwethaf. Mae S4C wedi bod yn cynnig rhyw fath o wasanaeth tebyg, S4C Gwyliwch eto, ers rhyw flwyddyn ond dwi'n meddwl fod sustem a meddalwedd iPlayer y BBC yn well - maen sicr yn llwytho yn gynt. Byddai'n fanteisiol i S4C dwi'n meddwl drosi i ddefnyddio system fwy tebyg i iPlayer y BBC. Dwi'n meddwl fod hwn yn ddatblygiad pwysig oherwydd maen anorfod y bydd mwy a mwy o gyfryngau yn troi i ddosbarthu dros bandllydan yn hytrach nag analog a lloeren. Yn fy fflat i does dim signal teledu analog da ac nid oes signal digidol o gwbl felly mae fy sefyllfa yn fy...
I'm biased, of course, but I thought the BBC made the wrong call yesterday. While Radio Five Live had excellent coverage from Chasetown, just think what live TV coverage of the game would have meant for the club - probably £300,000 in revenue which would have helped Chasetown with their new stadium and their other ambitions. It's not as though the Villa-Man U match was a great game either for most of the 90 minutes. You are subscribed to an RSS Feed from Leighton Andrews. Better late than never… this Christmas we discovered the television comedy Gavin and Stacey, thanks to a gift from a kind uncle. The comedy was written by Ruth Jones and James Corden.
It was a thrilling discovery. We had to pause the DVD several times to try and recover from fits of hysterical laughter.
Gavin and Stacey is a lovely romantic comedy romp, with a strong Welsh flavour.
There were one or two scenes that really tickled the heart-strings in a big way. We fought (and failed) to hold back the tears watching the scene with Rob Brydon on the way to the Church with his niece.
Rob Brydon was absolutely excellent. He recently appeared in a one-man show in the Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare. How we now wish we had gone to see him!
The humour in Gavin Stacey is reminiscent of...

So El BBC decided to ban the word faggot in the Pogues song Fairytale of New York, as detailed on their website here. Then about 24 hours later they climbed down and decided that the word faggot was okay again. A humiliating climbdown.Even worthless shower of shit that make up the government are doing better than that, only just. The BBC stated: The words "slut" and "faggot" had been dubbed out from the 20-year-old festive hit by station executives. But after a day of criticism from listeners, the band, and the mother of singer Kirsty MacColl, they changed their minds. Controller Andy Parfitt said the original decision was "wrong". The BBC had said that an edited version would be played because "some members of the audience might find it offensive".It was quite startling how over a...
Mae wedi fy nharo i droeon sut y mae BBC Wales yn trin Cymru fel rhanbarth o Brydain yn hytrach na fel cenedl. Cymharwch Wales Today gyda'r 6 o' clock news o Lundain – nid yw Wales Today, ein rhaglen newyddion genedlaethol, yn trin Cymru fel cenedl ond yn hytrach mae jest fel rhaglen newyddion unrhyw ranbarth arall yn Lloegr. O bell ffordd y brif stori newyddion yng Nghymru heddiw oedd bod 600 wedi troi allan i brotestio yn erbyn cynlluniau cyngor Gwynedd i gau ysgolion – 600! Does dim 600 wedi troi allan ar y strydoedd yng Nghymru ers blynyddoedd lawer, ddim yn fy oes i beth bynnag. Cymharwch lleoliad y stori ar wefan BBC Cymru a BBC Wales. Maen brif stori gan BBC Cymru chwarae teg ond sylwch ar ei leoliad gan BBC Wales. British Broadcasting Corporation yn wir! Beth sydd tu ôl i'r...
That is how Jonathan Ross described himself last night, in response to criticisms of his £6million annual salary. The secretary-general of the National Union of Journalists has responded by calling his remarks "obscene".Come on Jonathan look at the quality of the BBC reporting, look at their blatant hatred of Israel, their anti US spin on the news, the fact that they cover the fact that the US has the death penalty yet say nothing about Iranians being executed for homosexuality. Iran executes makwan moloudzadeh and nothing I can see on the BBC. Personally, although not a fan of Mr Ross or his vast salary that I indirectly pay for through the license tax, I would say that he is worth more than all the so called news reporters at the BBC.Jeremy Dear, the NUJ's general secretary, said:...
If the BBC Trust is serious about reviewing coverage of the devolved nations on the BBC's UK news network then I welcome it.The dominance of a metropolitan agenda is the problem rather than an English bias. But it means that the BBC fails to reflect the real diversity of the UK. Too often coverage of Wales is about 'quirky' issues rather than a real engagement of life in post-devolution Britain.ITN is worse. And the London newspapers are as bad, of course. All of them, without exception. But the BBC should be the benchmark. It has invested internally in training its journalists at regular intervals about the differences in the UK - eg in health and education - but the reality that appears on screen in the context of breaking news takes England as the norm - eg primary care trusts not local...
