Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s are holdindg an Open Day with an ‘eco’ flavour at the Muni in Pontypridd on Friday April 18.
Open from 10am to 2pm, the day will include experts who can provide advice, support and guidance, free samples of products that can save energy, details of grants that can help you think green and speeches from champions of the environmental cause.
Organised by the Council’s new Energy Team, which is working to cut fuel consumption, energy use and the carbon footprint of the authority and its residents, the day will feature:
· Information stands from organisations that are involved in sustainability, who will be offering guides, products and expert advice.
· Opening speech from Jane Davidson AM, the all-Wales environmental lead.

It is admirable to see that something is done to highlight the problem of climate change; however is holding many concerts around the world an answer. Yes it raises people's awareness of the situation and problem. In the Guardian today there is a piece talking about the event, and here are some stats raised:5,600 tonnes of greenhouse gases generated by people traveling to see the events around the worl (equal to 7,270 people flying across the Atlantic).The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be flying into London by private jet from Paris, then flying to Denmark for a gig tonight (in a private jet).Genesis will be traveling to Montreux tomorrow (jet no doubt).And the hypocracy of a few of the acts is somewhat bewildering...Madonna's tour to publicise Confessions on a Dancefloor produced 440...
Today i visited carbonfootprint.com and tried their carbon calculator. Although my result was just below the UK avarage it was almost 5 times higher than what campaigners say is needed to slow down global warming!!! And i didn't even take into account the carbon used to heat the house nor electricity (i dont pay the bills so i don't know). I know that i travel more than i should in my car (My girlfriend lives in Chester at the moment and i live in West Wales). So what am i going to do about this?? I have decided that i am going to try and reduce my carbon footprint as much as i possibly can, and also maybe offset what i produce so i can become carbon neutral.
