The Macmillan Walk takes place today … all ten miles from Hirwaun Rugby Club to Abercynon.
Hundreds of people met at the War Memorial in the centre of Hirwaun for the official start.
Walkers then embarked in stages.
The familiar tooting of horns and cheers of support can be heard as the walkers pass Penywaun hill.

Aberdare Blog started as an experiment in communicating views of Aberdare and views from Aberdare. It remains an experiment in communication open to participation. Jane from Mountain Ash blogged the lead story on the Mountain Ash Opencast plans this week. Why not blog your own story from Aberdare today ?
Here is a list of the Top 100 tags used to describe posts on Aberdare Blog… if we haven’t blogged on a subject close to your heart, you can fix that yourself. If you prefer to blog a story with photos or video, that’ll do nicely thank you, send them today.

Pirates took over the reception for the Outpatients Clinic at Aberdare Hospital on Friday.
They were raising money in aid of the BBC Children in Need Appeal.
Congratulations to staff at Aberdare Hospital for being such good sports.
The pirates certainly cheered the waiting......

Doubtless we're all geared up for this Friday's Children In Need extravaganza but I've just received an email from ebay in my inbox regarding some interesting auctions.
I expect half the country have received the email too! Go to ebay and just type in Children in Need and loads of stuff relevant comes up. Ebay aren't always reknown for giving away stuff but any money/profit raised through these auctions will go directly to Children In Need.As we say in Wales - Good Value!
You can link directly to ebay here...

My friend Mick and his mate Sean are going to be taking part in Le Tour Challenge to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust a Latch. The race follows the route of the Tour de France, an takes place two days prior o the big race itself. Mick has been training hard for the race, spending most evenings and all weekends cycling all over the south east - he's lucky he lives in Wales where there are plenty of hills to replicate cycling in the Pyrenees! They've been give a camera by BBC Wales to record their experiences, and you can keep track of them via their blog. If you can spare a quid or two, please consider donating, what they're doing is a bit more challenging than sitting in a bath of...

March 1st is St Davids Day, the Princes Trust also use this day to raise money under the moniker “Go Red for Wales”.
The company that I work for put a lot of effort into this day and this year there was a lot going on throughout the building all day, from throwing wet sponges at managers to leg waxing.
For the Wii Sports tournament that I organised, Cardiff Blues & Welsh international players Rhys Williams & Robin Sowden-Taylor came along to help raise the profile of the tournament and raise even more cash for the Princes Trust.
The final total is yet to be released, as there are still auctions running, but the amount is currently at over £3,000.

Rhondda Cynon Taff’s Local freecycling group has adopted a new logo of sorts… a sofa.
It was discovered overlooking Llwydcoed near the busy Baverstocks Hotel.
Perhaps this might spur us on to create a Green Drinks logo!
