St Winifred’s Church in Penywaun is hosting events to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.
On Friday 21st November 2008 between 10 am until 4 pm the church is opening its doors for a flower festival, tea and coffee available.

International artist Martyn Jones is “coming home” with the latest exhibition of his works now on show in Aberdare.
Originally from the Cynon Valley, Martyn Jones is a contemporary painter who works from his studio in Cardiff. He graduated M.A. Fine Art, at Chelsea School of Art, London and was awarded Junior Fellowship at Bath Academy of Art. Among his tutors were the British artists Adrian Heath and Patrick Heron.
Aeon, an exhibition of work by Martyn Jones, is on show at the Cynon Valley Museum and Gallery until November 8th. The Gallery is open 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Sunday. For further details, contact 01685......

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s are holdindg an Open Day with an ‘eco’ flavour at the Muni in Pontypridd on Friday April 18.
Open from 10am to 2pm, the day will include experts who can provide advice, support and guidance, free samples of products that can save energy, details of grants that can help you think green and speeches from champions of the environmental cause.
Organised by the Council’s new Energy Team, which is working to cut fuel consumption, energy use and the carbon footprint of the authority and its residents, the day will feature:

Furniture reuse charity Valleys Furniture Recycling - known as Too Good To Waste - has been shortlisted for the Cylch Community Recycler of the Year Award.
The Ferndale-based charity which is supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is one of three Welsh charities shortlisted as Community Recycler of the Year and volunteers are hoping plenty of local people will help them secure the first prize.
Who wins the award is down to a voting scheme which can be found on www.cylch.org or by writing to Jasmine Brown at Cylch, 113 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9PH. Voting will close at 5pm on Friday October 19th and a presentation ceremony will be held at the Marriot Hotel, Cardiff on October 24th.

The 2007 Soil Association conference focuses on the urgent need to develop new models of localised food and farming systems. This is in anticipation of the central role that farmers and growers will play in averting climate change and delivering food security in an era of scarce and expensive energy.
Key note speakers include Colin Campbell, Richard Heinberg, Kevin Morgan, Jonathan Dimbleby, Rob Hopkins, Jeanette Orrey, Jeremy Leggett, Jonathon Porritt and Zac Goldsmith whose addresses will focus on energy use, climate change and agriculture.
Anna Ford will be chairing the question time panel on Saturday.
The conference hosts a full cultural programme including an art exhibition, music, organic clothes show and storytelling. Workshops will allow interactive discussion on a range of issues...

Plans Afoot For Travelling UK Peak Energy Roadshow
There is interest in organising a UK-wide string of events with a co-ordinated publicity machine to push them, planned for April or May 2007.
