image To help promote my latest web site/blog, I’ve decided to run a rare cymru66.com competition with three great prizes on offer – First prize: a 20×20 pixel advertising block (400 pixels) on the I Want A Volkswagen Bus web site valued at $80 Second prize: $50 Amazon.com gift card via email Third prize: $25 iTunes gift card via email Before I share the competition requirements with you, here’s some background information to the I Want A Volkswagen Bus web site where I’m looking for advertisers to purchase pixel space to promote their own web site, blog or online business. Linkshare: “A Great Little Earner” via cymru66 October 25th, 2007 at 15:15

image More by luck than judgment, I recently discovered a great way to generate some extra cash from this blog. About 3 weeks ago, Starbucks and iTunes teamed up and launched a limited time offer where visitors to the famous coffee shop would be given a “Song of the Day” card containing a FREE download code. I blogged about it the first day they ran the promotion, more because I thought it was a cool idea than anything else. A few days later I thought it may be possible to generate some return traffic if I posted a daily updated “Song of the Day” list. I also knew it was possible to promote iTunes via a blog or web site, and this is where Linkshare came into play. I applied to join their iTunes Affiliate Program (which currently pays 5% commission on all goods), and if I...

DRM-Free Music Downloads From Amazon.com via cymru66 October 19th, 2007 at 12:50

image Did you know Amazon MP3 offers over 2 million songs — all in MP3 format, which means they can play on any digital media player, including the iPod? Most songs are between $0.89 and $0.99, and most albums are between $5.99 and $9.99. Browse by price or genre; shop Top Downloads or New & Future Releases; and search for songs, albums or artists using the search box at the top of any Amazon MP3 storefront page. Listen to 30-second samples of songs by clicking the “play” button next to a song title, or hear all samples from a song list by clicking the “Preview All” button. Amazon MP3 uses 1-Click ordering to make buying music quick and easy. Click “Buy” and after a simple one-time set-up, your downloads will start automatically. Please note: Amazon...

I Won Another Competition: This Time An iTunes Gift Card via cymru66 October 12th, 2007 at 11:21

image A couple of months ago I entered a competition to win an iTunes gift certificate at Mike French’s Tales From The Tree blog. Mike is a popular member of the BlogCatalog social blog directory, which is where I first discovered his two writing/publishing blogs. I don’t remember the exact details of the competition, but I think it was something about choosing the odd song out from a “wall” of iTunes tracks. Somehow I deduced the odd one out to be the top song Ruby, by The Kaiser Chiefs. I emailed Mike, and as the contest wasn’t due to finish until the end of September, I promptly forgot all about it! About a month later, I contacted Mike about Chapter 3 of his book, and he mentioned in his reply that I was still the only entrant in the completion and it...

Opening up DRM via hintofsarcasm March 22nd, 2006 at 11:55

image On the 21st March, 2006, the French parliament voted overwhelmingly in support of forcing companies selling music online to open up their digital rights management (DRM) technology. What in effect this means, is that subject to approval of the French Senate, if you want to sell music online in France, it has to be compatible with all music players. Regardless of it’s format or source. As you’re all probably well aware, at the moment, if you buy a track from the iTunes music store, it can only be played on the Apple iPod and if you buy a track using Sony’s Connect music store, it can only be played using a Sony device (eg. Network Walkman, CD Walkman, Hi-MD, Clie handheld or Vaio computer) and there are more examples. This isn’t an ideal situation for everybody,...
