Adam Price, Plaid Cymru’s election campaign co-ordinator, sent a mailshot to Plaid Cymru supporters two months ago asking “Are you on Facebook?”. Fortunately, we are not. Here’s why …
Facebook is an American corporation. It exists to make a pile of money. That is the purpose of a corporation. It makes money by providing what is dubbed a ’social networking service’ and saturating users of such a service with advertising.
Nowadays, Welsh politicians of all parties bandy corporate brand names as if they held talismanic political properties. It is an absurd and exploitative relationship.
Why would we surrender our privacy to a commercial proxy to become “involved” with Plaid (or any other Party) ? That is not a means to engage in...

Once again Groundwork Trust host another Green Dayz Weekend at the Fedw Hir Eco Centre near Llwydcoed. The event runs this weekend on Saturday 17th May and Sunday 18th May from 10am until 4pm.
There was plenty of activities to entertain the whole family including hands-on pottery and ceramic session, handmade twig pencil-making, felt-making, face-painting, willow weaving, hurdle fencing and … welly wanging.
For Saturday only there was grand show of eagles and owls, including the world’s largest owl who was, thankfully, quite placid and friendly.
According to the Groundwork Trust, Welly Wanging is a sport that originated in Britain, most likely in Yorkshire. Competitors are required to hurl a Wellington boot as far as possible within boundary......

Many more photographs of St Mary Magdalene Church, Cwmbach have been added to the Gallery.
Click here to see the full set of Photographs.
St Mary Magdalene’s Church was established in 1882. Quite late in the day to be frank.
According to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Heritage Trail on Cwmbach : “Religious buildings opened, with the Baptists opening a chapel in 1841, the independents opening a small chapel known as Capel Bricks in 1846 and the Calvinistic Methodists opening a chapel at Tir Bach in 1852.”
In nearby Bridge Street, Wales’ first Co-Operative Store was opened on March 8th,......

There is a misconception that squirrels in Aberdare Park are all dumb, friendly and furry creatures.
Wrong.
We meet a very aggressive thespian squirrel this week with Hollywood ambitions.
Seeing our camera he got up and launched into a very convincing Robert De Niro impression…
You talkin’ to me?
You talkin’ to me?
You talkin’ to me?
Then who the hell else are you talkin’ to?
You talkin’ to me?
Well I’m the only one here.
Who the hell do you think you’re talking to?”

It has been another lawless weekend in ‘Wild West’ Aberdare Town.
Monday is the day that traders pick up the pieces after the weekend’s orgy of violence and vandalism.
This weekend, the windows of the Burtons menswear shop on Canon Street were kicked-in.
The windows of the Carousel Amusements on Commercial Street were kicked-in.
And the Barnado’s Charity Shop selling books on Commercial Street did not escape having windows kicked-in.
Both streets are covered by CCTV cameras which - allegedly! - provide more effective policing.
All the vacant shops in Aberdare are a reminder of just how difficult a battle traders face today.
It’s such a pity to see the broken windows in Aberdare week after week.
Who cares ?
Perhaps one day they will close all the shops,...

A memorial garden and benches were erected at Aberdare Park in memory of those who suffered and died in the Raglan Coach Crash, July 1995.

Brecon & Radnorshire AM Kirsty Williams and Cardiff South & Penarth candidate Dominic Hannigan joined Mr German at the press conference.
Mike German said: “In this election the people of Wales have a clear choice between parties. If they want a fair green future, then they have to vote for the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
”In my speech to conference I spoke about the importance of creating a society where young...

The tragic events of the past week in Trecynon near Aberdare has challenged our Community in many ways.
Why … ? There are so many “why?” questions to ask ourselves in Faith.
The streets of Trecynon are knitted together tightly.
From Windsor Street the Doctor’s Surgery, the Cub Scout Hall, the Church Hall, the Church, and the Police Station are all neighbours to each other.
It is difficult to accept that in the very midst of our community where we take our sick, let our children play, and worship that such a wanton act of violence should take place.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the wife and family of Father Bennett as they come to terms with their severe loss.

Budding Young ‘Bill Oddies’ flocked to one of the county’s most treasured beauty spots this week as part of a national campaign to encourage interest in the countryside and wildlife.
National Nest Box week saw Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Countryside Council for Wales join forces to host a workshop for children to build their own nesting boxes for birds.
The event on Tuesday (February 20) took place at Dare Valley Country Park, which one of the county’s most beautiful assets and also a famed spot for watching Peregrines and other British birds.
The park is such an environmental treasure, it has its own RSPB officer on site to share their knowledge with visitors on the huge array of birds, wildlife and ecological features that can be enjoyed there.

* How much oil and gas is left?
* Can renewable energy make a difference?
Using the most recent statistics from national and international

Peak Energy Publicity Drive
Plans Afoot For Travelling UK Peak Energy Roadshow
There is interest in organising a UK-wide string of events with a co-ordinated publicity machine to push them, planned for April or May 2007. The idea is to take the resources/speakers of all those groups interested in Peak Energy and put them into a common calendar of events to try and significantly boost the UK profile of Peak Energy (note, the term “Peak Energy”: we need to broaden this issue out into Peak Oil, Peak Gas, lack of uranium to fuel new nuclear build, climate change and the restrictions it places on future energy options, options...
A farmer who had pleaded guilty to allowing controlled waste to be deposited on her land has been sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months.
Shan Farr of Bwllfa Farm, Gelli, Rhondda Cynon Taf was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work under the direction of the Probation Service, to be completed within 12 months.
She was also ordered to pay costs of £2,300 to Environment Agency Wales, which brought the prosecution at Ystrad (Rhondda) Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
At the same court on 8 December 2006 Farr had entered a guilty plea to knowingly permitting the deposit of controlled waste on land at Bwllfa Farm, which did not benefit from a Waste Management Licence or any exemption.
The incident was discovered as a result of complaints from local...

A Walk Against the Wind Farm is to be held at Dare Valley Country Park on January 13th 2007. Starts 10am from the Dare Valley Country Park Visitor Centre.
The walk aims to raise awareness about the proposed wind farm to be sited near Cwmdare and running north to Hirwaun.
Those who take part in the walk will be able to see first-hand where some of the 400ft wind-turbines might be located and discuss their effects on the local environment.
David James, Chairman of Cynon Valley Ramblers has organised the event. He advises sturdy boots and estimates that the walk should last around two and a half hours. Hopefully the weather dries out for the day.
Everyone welcome. Just turn up on the day to join in the walk. For further information call David James on 01685 874600
