You can tell when half term hits these parts as riding down to Mumbles becomes more of an exercise in avoiding people (and their kids, pets, bikes, scooters, etc, etc) than head down and pedal like hell.Obstacles aside, it was a pleasant enough ride down to Verdi's and back (a 9 mile roundtrip) this lunchtime and it was nice just to be outside in the lovely sunshine. A fact which no doubt was emphasised by the number of other bikers I saw en route.Mrs DDWT had a nice surprise this morning when those lovely people from Venture Photography phoned her up to say she'd won a competition they were running - which she entered in Morrisons down at the Morfa retail park the other week. The prize, a free family setting and £75 voucher to spend on the snaps.Tech Tags: Bike Mumbles Photography...
Tell me why I hate Monday's, well I can think of plenty of reasons and none of them are to do with the hit single from the Boomtown Rats. Firstly it's back to work, then there's the sleep deprivation issue after having such a chilled out fantastic weekend and finally, there's that darn bloody lunchtime bike ride down to Forte's ice cream parlour in Mumbles.I really am getting bored of the same old Monday route and am desperate to find an alternative (but just as scenic) 11 mile route. I suppose if I'm honest it's lush during the summer months, but come autumn/winter it just turns into a windy, leafy, sand infested dirt track of a path.Anyway, grumpiness (is that a word?) aside DDWT Junior finally sent his letter off to Santa today and no doubt the Royal Mail will ensure he gets a...
Today's tale of the scale was once again a pleasant sight with me touching base at 16st 9lbs - a 1lb down on last week and a continuation of the 1lb yo-yo weight pattern!I decided to stick with my decision of not training today in order to recharge my batteries and I must be honest - I feel a darn site better for it. I'll be glad to get back in the saddle tomorrow though, for what is a planned easy session of around 10 miles or so.So with some spare time on my hands, I mowed the lawn and chopped up some wood we had stored up - which incidentally is now free (it you come and collect it) to anyone who wants to get a bonfire sorted for November 5th! I left Mrs DDWT and DDWT Junior have the dubious honour of going to Tesco's on a Sunday, which is always a bad move as EVERYONE seems to be in...
Biking was high on the agenda once again today (I'm not obsessed honest) with a 20 mile 'take it easy' ride down to Gowerton, Dunvant and Mumbles. It was a preparation ride in readiness for the big one on Sunday and it proved very worthwhile.
It also gave me the opportunity to try out some nutritional supplements for the race, such as the very nice (and chocolate coated) High Five Sports bar. These high carbohydrate bars are meant to provide a long lasting energy source and therefore is ideal for long bike races. I have to say it seemed to do the trick for me today - so I'll be munching a few of them come Sunday!
Talking of Sunday and the BikeWales West ride, my race pack finally came through today - much to my relief! The pack came complete with micro-chip timing device and my...
