Impact of the 2012 Olympics on lottery funding for Wales - Wales could lose out on up to
£30million. Owen John Thomas (Plaid, South Wales Central) stated that the impact of such a funding cut could be 'horrific'. Welsh Culture Secretary Alun Pugh (Lab, Clwyd West) has written to his UK counterpart, Tessa Jowell, advising her to find additional funding streams and said that he would be very disappointed if Welsh projects suffered. DCMS issued statement saying that the benefits of the games will outstrip the negatives. Adam Price MP said that he supported the London Olympics but asserted that the extra money should not come from the lottery. He added that it would be wrong for areas like the valleys to fund the regeneration of East London.

It was refreshing to see that politicians have made their stance clear and acted on their principals. Today several elected representatives of, not only the Scottish legislature, but also of Wales and also Dutch politicians were arrested at a protest against the renewal of trident, the UK's nuclear deterrent. Unlike the mundane Anglo-centric political parties that are Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats (especially the Lib-dems) in Wales who are all talk and no action, I am glad that Plaid Cymru had a presence there! And who said politics is...
Spot the article in today's paper written by the work experience boy:Three elected representatives from Wales are to take part in a demonstration today at the gates of a nuclear weapons base in Scotland. The Welsh elected representatives expected to attend are Hywel Williams MP, Leanne Wood AM and Janet Davies MEP, who is also chair of CND Cymru.Janet Davies is an AM. Jill Evans is an MEP and chair of CND Cymru. While we're on the subject, will none of the 'anti-trident' Liberals be joining...
I came across a couple of interesting pieces over the last couple of weeks that I thought I would share. The first thing is the What's In a Number 2006 Edition (320) of This American Life."Recently, the British medical journal The Lancet published an study which updated their estimate of the number of Iraqis who've died since the U.S. invasion. With that in mind, we revisit a show we did in 2005 about the earlier study published in Lancet estimating the number of Iraqi deaths. That study was mostly ignored in the U.S. Alex Blumberg revisits the original study and looks at the new one."Good research, unpalatable results. Now for bad research and really unpalatable results.Navajo's have been getting sick for decades, and their sheep have also been getting sick but instead of looking at what...
I’ve always wanted to visit a country of the former USSR.
Czech Republic was always my first choice, but, now that I have found something that has swung me towards the Ukraine. Now all I have to do is get Laura on-side and we can book.
The deciding factor is the ‘Chernobyl tour’ that is on offer.
For £120, you can spend a day in Chernobyl, Pripyat & the Red forest with a tour guide.
Pripyat, which is the town that was built by the soviets to house the workers at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is totally deserted and has the most harrowing story behind it and my main purpose for going would be to get some amazing and emotive shots from the deserted streets, houses and schools.
A BBC News online journalist has taken the tour and posted their shots, here.
I could...
