The People of this Valley will extend a warm welcome to Prince Charles who will be visiting today as part of a Royal Tour.
HRH Prince Charles the Prince of Wales is expected to visit the Welsh Whisky Company distillery in the village of Penderyn, set in the beautiful landscape of Brecon Beacons National Park.
Prince Charles takes a deep interest in the important things in life : the people, the land and the food we grow. He is a knowledgeable farmer who has championed the environmental cause for many, many years.
Thus we hope this Royal visit will encourage a greater interest in these subjects in Aberdare. We need to grow more of our own food in Aberdare and other former industrial areas and we need to husband and conserve the land and our resources more responsibly.

At the annual Crafty Break at the Gorwelion Guide Centre Trefoil Guild members enjoyed many crafts. Amongst the members from all over Wales was an ex-Penderyn lady - Mrs. Eileen Short (now living in Mid Wales).
Lovespoon making under the instructions of Arthur from Cardiff was really popular (the wood chippings covering the floor was proof of this!).
Salt dough scuptures, delicate bead work, Christmas card making and decoration for Christmas trees, etc.
Barbara Howarth (organiser) and her small team must be congratulated for the success of these Crafty Breaks.

The Mount Pleasant restaurant and inn was the venue recently for a MEET THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS buffet lunch to welcome the Australian penpal of Joan Rees. Lyn Fowler had been writing to Joan Rees for over 15 years.
They both had been Brownie Guiders and so Aberdare Trefoil Guild members were amongst the forty who attended the event. After lunch the visitors saw carousels of photographs projected on to a large screen on AUSTRALIA, PLACES IN SOUTH WALES, TREFOIL EVENTS, and of course the FAMILY.
Lyn and John only stayed for 5 nights in Aberdare as they had to return to London for the start of a 7 week tour which took them to Stratford, Bath, Cardiff, Pembroke, Ireland, Scotland for the Edinburgh Tattoo, York and back to London to continue to Budapest, and eventually Amsterdam and...

“MY LAND’S SHORE” - the musical Wales has been waiting for
Music by Christopher J. Orton
Book & Lyrics by Robert Gould & Christopher J. Orton
In the aftermath of the Merthyr Rising of 1831, Richard Lewis (aka Dic Penderyn), an ordinary man of conviction and integrity carried along by the wheels of history in extraordinary times, became the first martyr of the Welsh working class. Now he becomes the central character in a new musical with a beautiful and powerful score by Christopher J. Orton (composer of the critically acclaimed 2006 concept album musical “Dracula”, starring “Les Miserables” veteran Michael McCarthy).
From August 3 to 5, 2007, “My Land’s Shore”, a new dramatically driven and musically breath-taking theatrical production will receive its world...

The village of Penderyn in the north of the Cynon Valley enjoys a privileged position as gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park .
Snow has fallen heavily this week and drawn many brave parents and their children to the hills near Storey Arms, on the way to Brecon town, for skiing and snow slay fun.
There are many more of your Penderyn photographs in the Penderyn Photograph Gallery.

Photographs of the interior of the refurbished Hirwaun Scout Hall are now available in your Hirwaun Online Photograph Gallery section. The photographs were taken at the recent ceremony to unveil a plaque and officially re-open Hirwaun Scout Hall after a work was undertaken funded by a grant from Amgen Environmental Body (AEB) Ltd.
Amgen is an organisation set up under the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme and was designed to allow Landfill Operators an opportunity to re-invest in their local communities and surrounding areas.
Early in 2006 a project application to obtain funding for the complete refurbishment of the hall was received by AEB from the Officers of the Hirwaun Scouts Hall. The hall is used for many activities including scouts, cubs and beavers etc.

There was some excitement in the local schoolyard this week as parents with children at Ysgol Penderyn School were given a preview of the new school buildings.
The brand new community primary school at Penderyn wil provide for up to 240 pupils with an eco-friendly learning environment.
An investment of around £4 millions pounds was made by Rhondda Cynon Taff Council and the Welsh Assembly Government in the new school which has a number of innovative ‘green’ features including a biomass boiler and solar hot water system, a rainwater harvesting system, eco-lab and recycling units.
