There's a story that goes with this photo. Not sure if it's true.
Gunnison County's Jason Crawford was angry at God for taking the life of his brother John, so he decided to take it up personally with the "Big Guy in the Sky."
Crawford was seen with both middle fingers raised high toward the angry clouds for "a good twenty minutes to half an hour," as an onlooker described. Apparently, he was standing in the middle of an open field during a thunder storm during his open act of defiance.
In a later statement by Crawford, he explained more in detail the events that took place that evening:
"It melted my gold chain and crucifix. I was a little drunk and pretty pissed off at God when I decided to give him my ... special message."
The good news is that Jason's faith has been renewed...
At least that's what Vince Fenech, Evangelist pastor and director of a Creationist institution believes. He also believes that the universe was made in 4004BC and this is how he proves it:-
“When man landed on the moon (in 1969), they expected the landing module to sink in a deep layer of dust. But the layer was only a few inches deep. This proves that the universe is still young!”...
Here's Westboro Baptist Church's response to the fire. Watch out America, God still hates you.
They've also blamed God for this church fire in Baltimore. Their headline says "You Tried To Burn Our Church - Now God Is Burning Down Yours!" even though in this post they say an arsonist set their church on fire. The arsonist, in their words (PDF), was "no doubt the work of fags or fag-sympathizers".
I find them so hypocritcal. They say that God, their God, hates America yet continue to live within that country and they say judges are to blame for the arson yet expect the assistance of the Department of Justice.
Perhaps what I wrote in a previous post was an off the cuff remark, but I consider the leaders of the Westboro Baptist Church to be evil people.
I respect people's right to free...

There was a fire at the Westboro Baptist Church on Saturday night. Unfortunately, nobody was injured. Raw video here....
Today the High Court awarded victory to Sarika Singh, a Sikh schoolgirl, who was excluded from school for wearing a religious bangle.
The human rights group Liberty, representing 14-year-old Sarika Singh, successfully argued that Aberdare Girls’ School breached race relations and equality laws by excluding her since November 2007 for wearing the kara (a plain single bangle widely accepted as a central tenet of the Sikh race and religion).
Sarika Singh, of mixed Welsh/Punjabi origin, has been raised in the Sikh faith and was the only Sikh at the Aberdare Girls’ School. The school’s uniform policy prohibits the wearing of any jewellery other than a wrist watch and plain ear studs. When the school noticed that Singh was wearing the kara, she was isolated for two months, including...

Make sure you enjoy yourself today as it may be your last day on Earth. At least that's what self-proclaimed prophet Yisrayl "Buffalo Bill" Hawkins is predicting. He is predicting that nuclear war will be declared either today or tomorrow which will result in the end of the world.
According to this report, his followers are standing by with hundreds of truck trailers loaded with food and water on the group's 44-acre compound in Abilene, Texas.
This is not the first time that Hawkins has predicted the end of the world. Back on September 12th, 2006 he also thought the world was going to end but obviously was wrong and hundreds of his followers in Kenya who were hiding out in bunkers removed their gas masks and walked home in humiliation. All things dull and ugly,
All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.
Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom.
He made their horrid wings.
All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.
Each nasty little hornet,
Each beastly [...]...

In his book Chapels of the Cynon Valley (Gomer, Llandysul, 2004 Alan Vernon Jones presents an accountant-like view of the Chapels of this Valley.
He presents a ‘Chapel Balance Sheet’ thus :
Chapels of the Cynon Valley as at Autumn 2004 (the publication date of his book)
Active Chapels = 63 35%
Vacant Chapels = 11 6%
Converted Chapels = 50 28%
Demolished = 56 31%
Total chapels built = 180
So in summary, a third of Cynon Valley’s Chapels no longer exist after being demolished. The highest rate of demolition took placed during the period 1960-2000 when 45 Cynon Valley Chapels were demolished.
Then around another third have been converted (and those conversions have not always been sympathetic to the architectural integrity of the original chapel design).

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, the Archbishop of Westminster, urged the Polish community to do more to learn English and integrate into local parishes, claiming the Catholic Church in the UK was in danger of dividing along ethnic lines as the number of Polish-speaking churches rose.
And the response of Polish community representatives?
Leading Polish community figures said they felt “violated” and “spiritually raped” by his words and called for talks on the issue.
The Telegraph, Catholic leader claims Poles could split Church
Now, Poles new to the UK may argue there’s no requirement for them to speak English and join local Catholic churches; that there’s no need for them to do that; that it’s not advisable for them; that they are trying...

Seven people were injured on Thursday when Greek Orthodox and Armenian priests came to blows in a dispute over how to clean the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
Following the Christmas celebrations, Greek Orthodox priests set up ladders to clean the walls and ceilings of their part of the church, which is built over the site where Jesus Christ is believed to have been born.
But the ladders encroached on space controlled by Armenian priests, according to photographers who said angry words ensued and blows quickly followed.
For a quarter of an hour bearded and robed priests laid into each other with fists, brooms and iron rods while the photographers who had come to take pictures of the annual cleaning ceremony recorded the whole event. Link (w/......

Over the last couple of weeks, parts of Britain have suffered from severe flooding caused by what is likely to have been the wettest June on record.
Some will say say that it's 'just one of things' others will speculate that it's a side effect of global warming but the Church of England say the floods were a result of 'God's judgment on the immorality and greed of modern society'.
One Bishop even what as far as saying that the introduction of pro-gay legislation angered God who then caused the floods to teach us all a lesson.
"In the Bible, institutional power is referred to as 'the beast', which sets itself up to control people and their morals. Our government has been playing the role of God in saying that people are free to act as they want," he said, adding that the...

I feel compelled to take up arms against the Welsh Christian Party, even though there’s only one of me and they’re sufficiently numerous to contest Assembly seats in all five Welsh electoral regions.I’d really prefer to turn the other cheek on the basis they’re not worth it, but since one of their main policies is to ban the Red Dragon flag of Wales because it’s “the symbol of the devil in the scriptures”, I’m left with no other option than to call them out. I’m the Red Dragonhood’s standard-bearer, for Christ’s sake!If I’ve understood their manifesto correctly, their political doctrine is based on an anthology of conflicting essays written in the Dark Ages but edited and reinterpreted several times over the centuries by despots keen to invoke an unimpeachable...

The only remaining Welsh language church in Canada is celebrating its 100th birthday.
Dewi Sant Church in Toronto, Ontario, is believed to be the only church in North America still holding regular services in Welsh.
Eisteddfods, folk dancing and banquets are being organised throughout the year to mark the centenary.
The church was set up in 1907 by two Welshmen - one from Anglesey and one from Denbighshire.
Dewi Sant, which has more than 100 regular worshippers, holds a Welsh language service on the first Sunday evening of every month.
Two years ago, Reverend Deian Evans emigrated from Criccieth in Gwynedd, to become the church's minister.......

Well yet again it is one of those days that everyone talks about in a mater of fact way. Its Shrove Tuesday, or as it has become to be known as "Pancake Day". Of course we all know it's a day created to celebrate the culinary niceties of Pancakes! This is another example of a tradition rooted in religious practices turned into an excuse to consume.Shrove Tuesday is traditionally a day to prepare for the fast during Lent, and therefore Shrove Tuesday and Lent comes as part ans parcel. However just as it is with Christmas, and Easter we see this culture of consumption rear its fat over fed head. It is funny how these occasions have been turned into a consumer fest of gorging and spend spend spend! All you hear on the TV or Radio is "oh it's Pancake day" or, as i heard on local news today...
I know you have to abide by the rules of a country but these are some harsh rules.
A Saudi Arabian judge sentenced 20 foreigners to receive lashes and spend several months in prison after convicting them of attending a party where alcohol was served and men and women danced.
The defendants were among 433 foreigners, including some 240 women, arrested by the kingdom's religious police for attending the party in Jiddah.
Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which it bans alcohol and meetings between unrelated men and women.
The religious police, a force resented by many Saudis for interfering in personal lives, enjoys wide powers. Its officers roam malls, markets, universities and other public places looking for such infractions as unrelated men and women...

According to a campaigning group, staff at the Grand Canyon are not allowed to officially comment on the of the geological feature Apparently, the reason is that the geologic age is way in excess of the apparently 6000 year old age of the planet according to Creationists. Not sure I believe the story, and will look into it further…
Tom Coates, Links for 2006-12-30
That never sounded a plausible story and now we know for sure it’s nonsense. Actually, I already knew it was nonsense. When I visited the Grand Canyon there was no end of information about its age and wonder at the fact of its relatively recent emergence - recent in geological terms, that is.
The Grand Canyon, quite old when I last visited
So how come Mr Coates even bothered to publish a silly rumour, even if he...

The Bishop of St David’s and I fundamentally disagree on a metaphysical level. Since he’s unable to prove the existence of God, our diametrically opposed views are destined never to be reconciled, what with me being a fundamental atheist and he being a bishop of the Church in Wales.Yet I found myself whole-heartedly agreeing with the crux of his Christmas message as reported by the Western Mail. (You wouldn’t catch me in a place of worship other than to marvel at man’s age-old struggle to make sense of his existence). The Bishop’s premise was that the blame for our selfish, survival-of-the-fittest society lies firmly with our political leaders and I’ll pick that up and run with it.“There’s no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are...
