Nokia have started “allowing” you to upgrade the firmware on your phones. Previously, if you wanted a firmware upgrade (and you should, they usually come with hundreds of bug-fixes) you had to take your phone into a Nokia service center. Or, because I’m on Three, I had to send my phone into Three for them to update the firmware. Which would mean a week without a phone. Pain in the arse.
From today you can download and self-install new firmware. This, however, is dependant on your operator…. if your operator has “locked” the firmware, then its a no-go. Phones supported at the moment are N70, N72, 6131, 6630, 6680, 6681 and 6682. More coming soon.

was on the Three Walled-Garden last night, and saw a link to “Download MSN Messenger“. So I clicked, and it got installed. Apparently, its free to use until October, with a 200 message per day/6000 message per month limit. After that its £2 per megabyte to use.
It works ok on my Nokia 6680, but the client software is really buggy and slow. Two major bugs I’ve encountered:
If you’re typing a message to someone, and it goes onto a new line, it automatically selects the default character for the key you’re pressing. So for example, if you’re typing “hello”, and it goes onto a new line, the h would appear as a g. It has a problem with the double-press you would need to make a h.
