Plaid Call for Common Sense on Wind Farm via Hirwaun Online April 11th, 2007 at 20:10

image Plaid Cymru national Assembly candidate for the Rhondda, Jill Evans, is calling for a moratorium on Labour’s “windfarms-first” policy, following the threat of a massive wind-farm near Hirwaun. Speaking at a press conference held at Mynydd y Rhigos - the highest point in Glamorgan – Plaid Cymru Vice President Jill Evans MEP said: “Plaid Cymru firmly believes that urgent and effective action is needed to tackle climate change. But the top priority must be given to energy conservation and efficiency. Then, renewable energy must come from several sources – hydro, solar, bio-mass and wind. Labour’s policy, with its 80% reliance on on-shore wind-farms, is wrong. The result – 150 wind turbines in north Glamorgan by 2010 – is unacceptable. “We’re calling for a planning...

Listen Assembly Member, This is Democracy via Aberdare Blog January 23rd, 2007 at 22:23

image The Walk Against the Wind Farm was the front page story in Aberdare’s local newspaper last week. Several hundred people met at Dare Valley Country Park for a ‘ramble in the rain’. They braved the wettest and windiest weekends of the New Year for their walk. The message was a clear “NO” to the Welsh Assembly Government plans to see wind turbines erected in their community. There is a very edgy Head Saleswoman for Cynon Valley’s first Wind Farm. That saleswoman is the local Labour Assembly Member Christine Chapman. In an unusually verbose letter printed in the Cynon Valley Leader, January 4 2007, the Labour AM attempts to belittle those who oppose the wind farm : “some people’s views are strong and emotive” and “I am very...

The Grammar of Capital via Aberdare Blog December 22nd, 2006 at 08:13

image Work continues this week around the clock tower at the site of the old Aberdare Boys’ School. According to Colin Rees, the clock tower dates back to 1901, it was built five years after the school was built. The efforts to preserve parts of the school site by former pupils was laudable, but it seemed almost inevitable that they would fail as it would be going against the grain of how things work. Nothing is sacred or too special in a capitalist society. Marx puts it eloquently in Communist Manifesto thus : Constant revolutionizing of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social relations, everlasting uncertainty and agitation, distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier times. All fixed, fast-frozen relationships, with their train of venerable ideas and opinions are...
